Frontier Developments and Remote Locations

Scroll down for more

Oil and gas developments are becoming less accessible, requiring extra consideration to be made during the design stage to ensure the main impacts are captured at the concept selection phase. The methods used by Genesis enable influences on the design definition for remote and frontier locations to be identified.

With most of the world's accessible reserves developed, there is an increasing need to consider developments in the less accessible areas of the world. This introduces more challenges at the conceptual design phase to ensure the options being considered are being compared on a valid basis so that the correct solutions are identified and carried forward.

Our recent studies include:

  • Arctic Ocean

  • Deserts of Kazakhstan

  • Gas monetisation in Guyana and Brazil

  • Jungles of Central Africa

  • Offshore Columbia

  • Shale oil in Alaska.

Impacts on design and definition arising from the following are of particular relevance:

  • Accessibility

  • Transportation and installation constraints

  • Logistics and supply

  • Export options and routes

  • Adverse environmental conditions (ice to desert).

Transparency is essential so that the client is aware of how the technical definition and subsequent cost and schedule estimates have been built up so that the key project drivers are identified for more detailed investigation and risk management.
